The costly pitfalls

NEVER pay a recruiter for 'visa fees' or 'processing fees': Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 requires the employer to pay 100% of costs (MoHRE permit, visa, Emirates ID); any upfront request is a scam.
Beware of WhatsApp/Facebook offers from a personal number, with no interview and unrealistic salary: always verify the entry-permit reference number via the MoHRE inquiry service before buying a ticket or resigning.
Do not enter on a tourist (visit) visa to 'search on the ground' and then work: working without a MoHRE permit is illegal and exposes you to fines, detention and a travel ban.

Demand and read the MoHRE offer letter (Arabic/English) before travelling, then the labour contract registered within 14 days: contracts are now mandatorily fixed-term since Decree-Law 33/2021, with a maximum 6-month probation.
Salary must match your role's MoHRE skill level: levels 1 to 5 (professional/skilled) require an attested degree, while levels 6 to 9 (driver, construction, labourer) are task-based with no formal degree.
Prepare for the mandatory medical fitness test (HIV, TB, Hepatitis B, syphilis): a positive HIV test or active TB causes visa denial and an exit order, with 14 days to appeal via confirmatory testing.

Study in Dubai or Abu Dhabi: the accredited university sponsors the visa; English is the language of instruction almost everywhere.

Never pay an agency in Douala or Yaounde for a 'guaranteed admission': only the accredited university sponsors the visa, and its admissions office handles your file directly online, free apart from the official application fee.
Do not enrol at a non-accredited institution: some private 'colleges' CANNOT sponsor a student visa; check the CAA licence (caa.ae) or KHDA in Dubai BEFORE paying a single franc.
Do not leave without attested degrees: without the MINESUP → MINREX → MoFAIC attestation chain (the UAE has no embassy in Cameroon), the university can freeze your final enrolment while you are already there.

Insider tips

Compare emirates: for equally accredited degrees, Sharjah and Ajman cost far less than Dubai in both tuition and housing — many African students live there and commute to Dubai classes.
ALWAYS ask about in-house merit scholarships (10 to 50% off): they are awarded on grades and English scores, and Cameroonian applicants who do not ask never get them.
Pay fees and deposits ONLY into the university's official bank account and keep every receipt: proof of payment is part of the visa file and the security deposit (about AED 3,000) is refunded at the end of your studies.

Join a relative working in the UAE: their salary (≥ AED 4,000/month) and housing drive the whole decision.

The AED 4,000 threshold is assessed on the BASIC salary of the attested contract, not the total package: a sponsor on 'AED 4,000 all-in' (housing and transport included) can be refused.
Attestation failures reject more files than eligibility itself: a Cameroonian marriage certificate without the MINREX → Cameroon Consulate in Dubai → MoFAIC chain (plus legal Arabic translation if required) blocks everything.
Never touch 'genuine-fake' civil status records: the slightest name or date mismatch between passport and birth certificate gets the file rejected, and a detected forged document means an entry ban.

Insider tips

Since the 2022 reform, the sponsor's profession is no longer a condition: only the salary (AED 4,000, or 3,000 + housing) and suitable accommodation count — a waiter or driver can sponsor their family.
Check the category before paying: sons sponsorable up to 25, unmarried daughters with no age limit, children with disabilities without limit; parents require about AED 20,000 in salary (10,000 via the humanitarian route) plus a deposit.
Get birth and marriage certificates stamped at MINREX while the sponsor is still in Cameroon (or on leave): from a distance, the chain via the Consulate General of Cameroon in Dubai adds several weeks.

Visit Dubai or Abu Dhabi for 30 to 60 days on an e-visa sponsored by the airline, hotel or an agency.

Fake e-visa PDFs sold for XAF 50,000-150,000 on WhatsApp and Facebook in Douala and Yaounde are rampant: ALWAYS verify the visa yourself on gdrfad.gov.ae (visa status) or smartservices.icp.gov.ae (file validity) before buying the ticket.
The Cameroonian passport is among the nationalities hit by temporary restrictions (the October 2022 suspension, reported tightening in 2025-2026): never pay for non-refundable tickets before the visa is actually approved.
No more grace period since February 2026: the AED 50/day fine (about XAF 8,000) runs from the day after expiry, and overstaying more than 30 days requires an 'out-pass' of about AED 250-300 to leave the country.

Insider tips

Compare channels before paying: the official price of a 30-day visa is about AED 200-300 + VAT — anything an agency charges beyond that is its margin, so insist on a provider listed among GDRFA/ICP approved agents.
A relative residing in the UAE is your best sponsor: they can file the application as your host via GDRFA/ICP — the cheapest and most robust channel, especially during restriction periods on Cameroonian passports.
Keep the equivalent of AED 3,000-5,000 (XAF 500,000-800,000) showable on card or in cash plus consistent bookings: that is what the airline checks at boarding and immigration on arrival.

10-year long residence for investors (≥ AED 2M), very-high-salary professionals and distinguished talents — deliberately high thresholds.

Never pay for a 'guaranteed Golden Visa' sold by middlemen in Cameroon or on social media: eligibility can be checked for free on icp.gov.ae and no agency can bypass the official thresholds.
Do not confuse purchase price with certified valuation: the AED 2M property threshold is assessed on the Dubai Land Department valuation, not on what you paid — an overpriced 'AED 2M' unit can be valued below it.
The 'AED 30,000/month salary' track assumes a current UAE employment contract: an equivalent salary earned in Cameroon or elsewhere does not count, however high.

Insider tips

Start the pre-approval online from Cameroon (ICP Smart Services or GDRFA Dubai): you travel only once, on the 6-month multi-entry permit, for the medical and biometrics.
Since the 2026 federal circular, a mortgaged or off-plan property qualifies once the certified valuation reaches AED 2M, and several properties can be combined: no more need to have paid AED 1M upfront.
The talent track requires NO capital: doctors, researchers, creatives, athletes and PhD holders go through a nomination by the competent UAE authority — a file of publications, awards and recommendations beats a bank account.
